For anyone who has got one before, i have a few questions that i'm curious about. answer one or all of them if you'd like, i want to know. i have a vagina if you're wondering.
Is it awkward?
what steps can you do to prepare yourself before going in?
on a scale of 1-10 how bad does it hurt?
how long does it last?
what does the price range at?
how long do you have to grow your hairs before getting one?
is it worth it?
I won't lie, the first time hurts like a bitch, but as long as you keep to your regular appointments it will hurt less and less each time. After a few sessions you'll barely feel it. By my fourth session I could smile and watch as she ripped off the wax without even flinching.
I never felt awkward but if you are young or aren't used to having your privates on show (medical appointments, treatments etc) then it can feel awkward at first. If your waxer is good they will start some inane chatter with you which is great for taking your mind off the pain. Talk about your boyfriend, your annoying boss, your upcoming holiday, anything like that.
Also take some painkillers 30 mins before, and DO NOT have a drink for Dutch courage - alcohol is not advised pre wax as it makes you a bleeder. Ew.
Also make sure that you don't do any exercise the rest of the day, and try to wear loose clothes.
The day after you should apply aloe vera gel or similar to keep the area soothed, and every day after that exfoliate thoroughly and then moisturise afterwards. If you skip this you will get ingrown hairs which are painful and look gross.
I would also recommend a baby wipe to freshen up beforehand (front AND back) if you can't shower before your appointment. Don't be that girl who makes the waxers cringe...
I think it's totally worth it.
It can be awkward if you're not comfortable/prepared to show your shit - especially when it gets to the bum part and you have to spread your cheeks for them - but it generally isn't, they see them all day and don't really care about you personally.
Steps going in: a male friend once got piss-drunk and went in for his first full body wax before starting to transition. I prefer to go sober, though.
Pain scale: if you get a full wax the only bit that really hurts is exactly where you'd leave a landing strip, particularly above the clit.
15 minutes if you're doing just pubes.
Prices where you are differ from where I am, Brazil, so I can't answer that one.
Once a month if you don't mind the fuzz.
Totally worth it, completely different result than shaving.
