The Minoan civilization on Crete. The had water drainage and sewers 2000 years before the roman empire. They were also considered fairly pacifistic in relation to most other ancient civilizations. Had they not been destroyed by a volcanic eruption, who knows how far along our species would have been by now.
They are also believed to be the inspiration for the Atlantis myth.
