What’s your opinion on magick/witchcraft/voodoo?

I’ve practiced witchcraft for a little while now, and I’m always curious about the opinion of “outsiders” on the subject.

Mainly my craft focuses around meditation, self betterment, and home remedies. A lot of which is science-backed, while some is based on faith and divine powers.

I’ve come to the conclusion that most people view voodoo to be the “scariest” and the one that they wouldn’t take their chances with.

So, what’s your take?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • Your "faith and divine powers" are just the devil.

      • Exactly, and even the devil wasn’t a big deal back then with Jesus. He was implemented even further down the line lol when they realised people were difficult to control

  • It's completely fake, on the magic side at least. Anything that "works" is just science and mental health tricks.

  • I used to believe I was a with and do little spells I found on the internet (I was about 12) but it’s just pathetic for an adult to still do that stuff

    • I agree there is an age cutoff for believing in that shit. Pity those who actually belive it and try to use it to justify their actions.

  • I will the fuck out of shit.

  • I don't believe in any of it but I don't mind Wicca and paganism. It seems to be one of the most tolerant religions there is and it has a rich cultural history behind it.

I would be a little cautious about it in terms of how seriously people take the magic side of it. I'd worry some Wiccans would start to reject science in favour of their magic or something, which of course would be harmful. I haven't heard of anything like that though and the Wiccans seem to be strong enough to be able to accept that fact overrides belief, unlike the extremists of many other religions.

I think it's very hypocritical of people to call it stupid but who then worship another religion themselves, it's no more stupid than their religion. Their bigotry really shows in that they don't just ridicule every other religion apart from their own, they seem to discriminate against paganism specifically because they're an easy target in that they don't have many followers. They won't dare to disrespect the religions that many people believe, lest they appear to be intolerant. But the dumbest and most harmful religions aren't necessarily the ones with the fewest followers.

They could also be afraid that the recent rise of paganism signifies the coming downfall of the traditional religions, especially because paganism was originally the contender to Christianity hundreds of years ago and was always seen as being anti-Christian.

  • It's all a bunch of mumbo jumbo.

  • Practice whatever cultish things you want to do. If you want to sacrafice a rat so your herb garden will prosper go for it. If you want to sacrafice your neighbor to prolong the end of days... yeah you ain't going to get a sympathy card from me when the goverment invades your coven or compound.

  • Bunch of nonsense. Like wiccans, every single one I've met has been some fat ugly chick. Every single time. No fat isnt ugly well it is but they were also just ugly people physically and otherwise. Plus you browse the shops and you see wands. Fucking Harry Potter wands wich only discredits the whole thing even further.

The whole thing is really freaking stupid. Ooh you meditate good for you. Or you use natural remedies sooooo "magical" fuckibg stupid

          • I knew a guy in bootcame who was a wiccan. I asked him questions that he got massively insulted by like do you do hexes or sacrafices. He apparently believes hexes exist and hated the sacrafice question as if it wasnt a valid question when it comes to these pagan dance in the woods religions. Never actually got back to me if they did sacrafices of any kind.

  • I'm suspicious of Wicca as a religion because I've never heard of anything Wiccans aren't supposed to do. Muslims aren't supposed to drink alcohol. Christians aren't supposed to swear. Sikhs aren't supposed to cut their hair. Hindus aren't supposed to eat meat. Are there any Wicca-induced limits to human behavior?

  • I find it kinda fascinating, but wouldn't call myself a believer (I am agnostic). I don't engage in occultism, Im kinda worried that something bad would actually happen if I did but Im not convinced

  • Do magic 8 balls count? I have one. It's right here on my desk. Hmmm, let me ask it something. Okay:

    Is the earth flat?

    "My sources say no." LMAO.

  • I'm for it only if it's scientific. If it's spiritual, I'm wary of the provenance/loyalties of the spirits enlisted and would stay clear out of caution. If spirits are like people, then there will be some good, some bad and some downright manipulative. Why should they want to serve us anyway? They'd more likely want to see what they can get out of us!! Let's attempt to imagine this from a spirit's perspective, in the most rudimentary terms. To spirits, human beings are aliens.
If an alien approached a random dude on the street and said, 'Give me some of your earthling gold so I can make wealth from it on my planet', the random dude's first instinct may not be to hand over his jewellery. On the other hand, it might be to run, attack, call the police or ignore, and book an appointment with his shrink. Or he might say, 'In exchange for what?' and the alien would offer a few candles, rose petals and some incense and the guy would be like, 'You having a laugh, bro?'. Why would a random spirit be any more inclined to expend time and wealth/energy on a human, than a random human would be inclined to expend time and wealth/energy on an alien, for virtually no return? People can be absolute monsters - what makes spirits neutral? And who could arrest a spirit and take them to court if they tried to hurt you? Say they belong to a tribe or an order that is fine with killing humans... their government would only encourage them further.

These are just imaginations, of course. But imagination based on a few known parameters can help give us a sense of what's possible when we don't know. Science fiction is replete with celebrated examples. What I am assured of is that spirits who show allegiance to Christ and to God are good. They don't exist to do our bidding, but they uphold the cause of Christ, which is to reconcile human beings to God, who loves humans, and to help people to love each other and God. Because I share an allegiance with spirits who are loyal to Christ we are allies. But I wouldn't ever presume to ask them to do my bidding; they aren't my lackeys - they have lives of their own, and they are not lesser beings than humans. I wouldn't trust anything beyond that; some people may be spiritually more sensitive than others, but we are all basically out of our element in the spiritual realm.

  • What a joke. They are not even established. You get your religion from that children’s fiction of a website?i bet you get your philosophy from port a pot walls too

  • it’s just like any religion, people who worship something i think? not really a religion person but i see news articles of people dying from doing risky stuff like summoning a devil(?) to hex someone idk

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • I’m not religious and don’t really believe in that kind of stuff, but I do watch meditation video and stuff like that just to relax.

Only magic I truly believe in is the stuff stage magicians do, not because I believe it’s real but it’s a cool trick

  • I think most of it's bullshit, but there's something more than just this world. I wouldn't fuck with that shit; don't be playing with fire.

  • I don’t participate in any of it but I trust my shamans and usually go to them if I’m sick or unhappy.
Not really for anything spiritual but mental and physical stuff yeah they get it done

    • Whatever medicines they employ is 100% less effective or a placebo. Western medicine is actual medicine, our medicine is more potent because we managed to figure out why some bark gave people headache relief and created a more potent version.

Eastern is more spiritual, though its medicines it relies on are just medicinal plants and placebos. Some of its practices help enough people so I don't hate it.

      • A lot of western medicine relies on opium and can make you a junkie or dependent on it. Western medicine wants you to come back and keep giving them your money, that’s why people break their back and become an addict for the rest of their life.

I trust my shaman and wise women because they aren’t malicious or money hungry. And their treatments work, I go for a sinus infection around cold season and the treatment will clear you up instantly. And you don’t have to worry about whatever preservative chemicals that big pharmacy companies add.

        • Everything is made of chemicals. Everything will eventually give you cancer given enough time. Opium can be refined in many ways leading to the different variations of opium.

Medicinal plants are medicinal because the chemicals inside them are medicinal not the plant in of itself. Big pharma refines or synthesizes the same chemical found in those medicinal plants whichever is more efficent. No company wants to kill their customer and the goverment goes after those who are unfair to the system (if the public hasn't gotten their revenge first)

Some doctors are for the money, like every profession. Though in most professions there are people who want to legitimately want to help. Their methods use science that has been built up in knowlage through the centuries. Shaman practices largely remain the same, stagnating at minor cures and cover ups for big problems. Modern medicines seeks to fix problems not cover up the pain. Some people slip through the cracks of the system, it's not perfect.
