  • I sometimes like to give the biggest tip of a person's shift, so they go home happy. I was taking the train to a city for business fairly often, and stopping at the same bar and restaurant before going home, as it was upstairs from the train station. Got to know a few of the bartenders and their stories, some of which were very sad and hard-luck.

Sitting for an early dinner one afternoon, the sweet, fit-bodied, beautiful bartender girl (ex-bf, and she had two kids) was saying how her shift sucked, but, one guy gave her a $90 tip. This was around the holidays, and I told her "I can do better..I have to win this one". She kept saying no, you don't have to, etc, but I could tell she was waiting to see how much I'd do.

Paying my bill, I wrote in $150, then scratched it out, and wrote $300, leaving it on the bar as I put my coat on and started to walk out. She saw it, chased after me, gave me a huge, long hug, and told me I made her Christmas. That's why I do things like that, not to show off money. To make people happy.
