I was always threatened with it when I acted out when I was younger. That was enough for awhile. Then I did something truly bad (destroyed my sister's birthday present from our mom) when I was 7. I got spanked once and to this day I feel it helped me to learn discipline and self control for fear of the consiqences. I don't believe in ever hitting a child for no reason, but if it'll help them to learn then let it be done. Kids don't know right from wrong, it's the parents job to show them bad things'll happen for bad things they do. If every parent did that there'd be less bad people in this world (in my opinion).
Tl;Dr Spanking your child isn't necessarily bad, if done so the child learns to cop on after repeated times when told to stop.
