We don't care when people pass away

My town is full of gang members, drug addicts, murder, violence, hit and runs, robberies, and neglected children and animals. Is it normal most people(including myself) don't even bat an eye when we hear in the news that someone got slaughtered?

Actually most of people don't care they just pretend they do. You're being honest and it's normal. I don't care either except if it's, god forbid, someone I know

That's what I think. In a high crime neighborhood where people are used to murders in the neighborhood, they usually really don't care unless it's family or a close friend.

I don't care, unless they're family or I liked their personality, that's when I do care.

That is rough! What kind of dumb government is tolerating such a rundown crimeridden place?

They should be fixing it! Such disasterous places breed more social vices, more poverty, and it spreads itself around. It's parasitic poverty that likely has systemic origins.

    What a shame!

Look those people living such a hostile life, might care, but their energies are likely focused on primal survival. You're living in a place with people that all exhibit PTSD-wired brains. When are they going to have luxury of time and energy to devote to pondering about losses beyond their control? Awful place!

Thank God, I didn't grow up in such a place. I have no idea! I grew up on military bases. Everything was cleancut, orderly, and felt unusually safe. I didn't ever see any high crime areas except when accidentally driving through one. These places have a depressing vibe of hostility. I was glad to drive out of there!

It's a shame that people living in bad parts of town don't realize they can clean up their community. It takes neighborhood action. If enough people agree to evict crime, it will stop! What people have to do is make crime, violence, neglect, and the toxic vices that come with it, all unacceptable. If you have a couple of neighbors that just shrug their shoulders and let crime happen, it sets up shop. People have to have a zero-tolerance policy on crime. That would engineer a safer, healthier community. It's not bullshit. All it takes is human action to do this and good police back up (not corrupt), to come in and get the shit violent criminals out of there. There's a little more to it though. Places have to undergo social engineering, urban revitalization efforts, and things like that. Seriously, if a community looks clean, peaceful, and inviting, locals will have an incentive to keep their turf that way. Good lighting, get rid of liquor stores, bring in parks, greater community events so people get to know each other, and all that stuff. This works! It brings in business which oh, not a shock, increases local revenue, increases economic progress, and helps a community clean up.

Um, for the record though, it's true that all social classes kind of disregard the horrors you see in the media. Truth be told, the media could focus on happy, healthy news, but they prefer the "if it bleeds, it leads" approach to attracting attention. They don't really care either. They just want ad revenue.

It's normal but for me, if it is something really disturbing maybe i would put that unconsciously in my mind for a day or two

I grew up in a area similar to that don't live there anymore but I get what you mean.

I remember family members gangbanging and crap acting all tough but the moment one of them gets shot or dies everyone wants to cry.

I haven't been back to my hometown in a while and I cant say that I want to.
