We assume others are hateful

I think people are the way they are more so because of their personal experiences than of them being ignorant and hateful. I was having lunch with a police officer friend recently and I mentioned that my new neighbor is very quiet and doesnt come outside much. He told me "those are the ones you gotta worry about". I started by thinking "this is whats wrong with cops they assume everyone is bad" but then I listened to his stories and realized this guy does infact spend 10 hours a day dealing with the worst people imaginable. And I'm sitting here judging him a bit when his own experiences have shown him that people that do this behavior are a lot of times the same people that he's arresting. So maybe he is actually right? Maybe everyone should infact just listen to other people more and whats "right" isnt so black and white.

  • Its literally just a variation of "watch out for the quiet ones". Not even a cop thing, just a cliche line people throw out.

    • Yes, but that was just an example of a lot of semi paranoid comments he makes. He's on guard often and asks a lot of questions.
