Was the online gaming climate more toxic 12 years ago?

People on the internet jokingly say that " today's kids couldn't survive MW2 lobbies ", implying that the online-gaming climate was more toxic and less politically-correct back then. Is this true tho? Were gaming lobbies more ruthless back then than they are now?

Yeah, they were more ruthless back then 13
It's the same as now 8

Online gaming was way cooler back then, IMO. Loved playing Halo 3 online on my 360.

I dont play games much but I think its probably the same. I use to enjoy killing my team mates in the most bizarre ways and convince them it was an accident over and over.

Kinda, also I loved playing Super Smash Bros. Brawl using the online features a lot on the Wii ( I really miss the old days of the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection ).

Havent been on any modern shooter lobbies lately. How many 12 year olds are getting on mic now a days?

It's equally toxic, but there's more censorship for the toxicity now than there was in the past.

  • Oh yeah. Especially back in PS3 days when there were no party chats, just game chats

I myself would do these karaoke nights where I'd sing while playing. Songs like Call Me Maybe, Baby, Oppa Gangnam Style

I'd also talk lots of shit, get people to quick scope me (the only people better were people with less of a life than a high school student and people who plugged their controller into a computer)

It was fun, they had to hear you and most everyone had a mic on. You could just join a lobby and say "fuck you" and everyone would be yelling. People had avatars that were provocative

Trolling was fun and easy. There might still be a video of me up on YouTube talking like a five year old calling people doodoo heads or something lol (I didn't post the video)

What was Halo 2 like? I remember Halo 3 being really toxic. Never had the chance to experience Halo 2 online tho.
