Was the iraq war a success?

Now that the U.S. has withdrawn from Iraq, do you believe they were successful? Was it worth it? Did they win?(granted this wasn't a typical win/lose war)

I'm still waiting for Bush to find the WMD's.
Oh, that's right, there weren't any.

  • FUCK NO, it wasn't a success!!! Not only was it completely unnecessary, but it further bankrupt our country and caused a total economic meltdown.

I'm not just opposed to that war for my "bleeding heart liberal" reasons. From a financial standpoint, it created tons of problems. My grandchildren's grandchildren will still be paying off that giant debt.

It was a war on "terrorism" right? Well who profits from that lie? Certainly not any of us! The Middle East, then? Fuck no! Nobody benefited from it, except G-Dub, Cheney, and those other pieces of shit.

Afghanistan should never have been invaded, and we should have never set foot in Iraq after that.

I won't elaborate on this too much, but the war was fought because we thought (WE, as in President Bush) thought Iraq had dangerous weapons, right? Well, there were none, so we failed on that level. Even if there was something to ''take'' from it, there's not much.

We toppled a dictator, but turmoil is still at an all time high and it seems as though crime and terrorist acts are rising.

So really at this point, I still wonder why we're there, lol. I personally don't think it was successful at all, and our soldiers sadly, died for nothing.

Their own. The big news now is an NSA data center that will collect all communications globally and domestic to search through for "specific activity." It opens in 2013, and there is nothing we can do it about. Gone are the days of the first amendment.

Yes, and no. It's not a war that individual countries should have fought, though (as opposed to the UN). Nor should it have been about oil or WMD.

My biggest problem with Saddam Hussein was the Halabja massacre. I don't think it got mentioned once during the lastest war, and I don't know why. When a regime commits genocide, the world HAS to step in as one body. We should be tolerant of each other and respect each other's independence on most things. But not genocide. We should have dismantled them first time around, just after Halabja.

We seem to let this stuff go, though, if we don't have anything to gain personally. Pol Pot, Idi Amin... the way we stand idly by if there's nothing in it for us? We're the bad guy too.

Actually, even if there's genocide, I still say "fuck no" to war. People need to learn what "mind your own business" means. As harsh as it sounds, it's just my opinion, and we're all entitled to our opinions, and thus I hope I don't get attacked for posting this.

      Agreed.
We need to leave, they hate us and the tribal warfare deal they have now isn't going to change anytime soon so we should probably stop selling them weapons.

Depends on the way you look at it and what you've seen with your own eyes to understand it clearly.

The goalposts of what was trying to be achieved changed so many times that it's difficult to measure success because what exactly is a success in this war? For that reason, it can only be a failure because surely if you don't know exactly what the point of it is, then it's not worth doing it.

I was tempted to use the last option of it being more complicated...but well...#2 sums it up nice and simple:

    No.

We are still there and if we we ever leave the country will be in shambles within 20 years at a maximum but we should still leave
