Was it normal that i grew out of being a weeb?

The reason I asked was because when I was 9 I used to be huge weeaboo and I used to collect anime and manga stuff.

Now that I'm 17 I grew out of it, I'm currently planning on selling all of my collection, because I no longer have interest in manga or anime.

But the only real reason why I want to sell them is only because it's taking up a lot of space in my room and my parents are poor so I will have no choice but to sell the entire collection that I have.

I will only ask of you if this is normal?

Is It Normal?

  • As long as you're not just selling it because you think you're not supposed to like that stuff anymore. I still regret giving away my Pokémon card collection when I was a teenager.

  • Sell them! But like just keep your favorites if you have one. You might regret it in the future for selling all of them. :D

  • Why would this not be normal? People’s interests normally change as they get older.

  • Well, sure. Tastes change, people grow out of shit. Sounds to me like you're still somewhat into anime and just selling your collection to help out your parents. It's actually pretty cool that you'd do that for them. Maybe keep only what you really like and part with the rest, your folks should be chill with that.

    • I mean I watch it but not too often.

I guess you're right its best to keep some of it, maybe some of it. I could give some to my neighbor since he has kids that are into it.

However I'm not really a heavy fan of it as I once was.

As much as I really love my parents its just I also wanted to sacrifice things I use to love.

Sometimes when people are in that situation like I am it has to be done.

  • As children/young teens, most people either like things just because they’re popular and they want to fit in or because they’re unpopular and they want to be unique/‘quirky.’ It’s normal to grow out of things you liked as a child.

  • I mean by weeb I always think about like some kid who thinks if he eats enough pocky and uses shitty japanese language he learned from watching subtitled anime he's actually going to become japanese and go to japan to be a ninja. So yeah don't be that into adulthood.

  • Maybe you idealised a different culture because you wanted something in your life to make sense. Happy for you that you have let go!

  • Normal. You may find that you get back into it when you're older

  • Since the age of 15-16 I collected anything pokemon related and all sorts of anime dvds. Looking back I don't regret buying and selling them isn't really an option. I have lost interest in manga and light novels which is sad cause I spent a lot of my time reading them. I probably would have been classified as a weeb back then but as of now I don't think so. I just watch the occasional anime here and there. It's normal to lose interest in things you once loved growing up. For me I actually cherish those times.
