It's not that hard to get up, and to the bathroom. My dad is almost 82, with a bad back, and he gets up to go to the bathroom several times a night. There is nothing special about this kinda lazy.
Sounds like your father has a rough sleeping schedule. I think my kind of laziness is just a manifestation of efficiency without social norms. I still take showers, brush my teeth, nothing wrong with going old school with a chamber pot.
