  • People tip waiters, at least here in the United States, Because a lot of waiters make a wage that is less than half of minimum wage (I made less than $3 an hour working at Waffle House, American minimum wage, at least in this state is $7.25). I do not agree with this practice, and I commend those countries who do not have tipping and actually pay their employees a fair wage. I am an American, and I tip waiters because I feel bad that they're not getting a fair wage. I wish someone would pass a law here that required all restaurants to at least give their employees minimum wage. This damn wage exploitation by these big companies really grinds my gears and should be completely outlawed! It's just a way for the big restaurant companies to be able to severely reduce pay for their waitresses and waiters. I don't agree with this system, But I would tip your waiters and waitresses, Because they're being unfairly treated by these big corporations and these stupid laws That only give them like 3 bucks per hour for hard work. Here in America, I always tip my waiter or waitress because I know that they're working hard for incredibly little pay just so these big companies can get richer.

    • All restaurants in the US are legally required to pay minimum wage out of pocket if the tips don't reach minimum wage by the end of the pay period.

Nobody makes less than minimum whether they are tipped or not. They just want more than minimum
      wage.

"If wages and tips do not equal the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour during any week, the employer is required to increase cash wages to compensate.[5] As of May 2017, the average hourly wage – including tips – for a restaurant employee in the United States that received tip income was $11.82.[6]"
