Union flag/jack

I'm British and it really pisses me the fuck off when other Brits call our national flag the "Union Flag" instead of the "Union Jack", especially when they then go on to justify their reasoning by saying "it's only a Jack when it's flown at sea" or some other crap which has been cooked up basically for the sole purpose of flinging shit at those who correctly call it the Union Jack whenever they see it.

It has always been the Union Jack ever since King James I united Scotland, England and Ireland under the same banner in a personal union when he came to the throne in 1603, and a quick search on Google or Wikipedia will confirm this.

If you claim to be British and you don't know your British history you aren't worthy of being called a true Brit.

I just use the English flag instead. All countries in UK should be independent. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

If only England didnt have a massive navy shipyard in Ireland that's probably the main reason why England has some issues letting them go.

    • Is it normal that this seriously pisses me off?

      • No. They're just sounds people make to refer to a flag, I don't get why you think this is such a big deal.

My family and I live in Ireland and we sometimes put out the English/British flag during world cups and stuff.

    • If you mean the Republic of Ireland I wholeheartedly agree with you. I don't see anything wrong with it being flown in Northern Ireland at the current time, though.

I am from Derry, and while I whole heartedly support your right to fly any flag you want on your own property, I don't believe the British flag should be used to represent us when the British establishment has done so much evil against our community. I have no problem with loyalists communities using the flag in their own community just as I have no problem with other foreign people practicing their own culture here, as long as they respect our rights as well.

Wow. Aggro, much. I just don't like that it's become emblematic of the far-right.

    • You have a point. But still, it's the Union Jack, and NOT the Union Flag!

Well, it *is* a flag though.
