Trains in the distance

I have no idea why but I just hate the sound of far away railroad trains. If I'm in a car and directly in front of one when it runs, I'm fine. I think it's probably because the way the pitch is flat when I'm far away. It sounds so depressing and creepy and then I cringe. I, in no way, have any emotional connection to trains, so there is no correlation to the train itself (although all my friends suggest that I might have had an incident with a train). Do you have similar experiences with certain sounds like this?

Is It Normal?

  • I love the sound of trains in the distance. It reminds me that there are so many places to see and so much to do.But maybe you connect it with someone or something missing(or traveled away).Or maybe it subconsciously means you want to "get away" from something but can't.I hate the sound of dripping faucets. No reasoning, just do.

  • you know that human inherited fears and so, from the past? .. google it. Human are afraid of danger for old time experiencies in the species. Let say ...medieval time people over so many times in war, it built in the brain a permanent sensation of fear of wars,... that pass thru generations... and some people are afraid of war, even if they live in EAster Island!... were a war is imposible.!

  • Might be a phobia. I went to an old railroad/coal mining town in West Virginia called Thurmond and I've had nightmares ever since. I also used to live a mile away from an active railroad and the sound still creeps me out.
