years ago i worked with several mexicans. now why is it when they use the bathroom they through the used tp in the trash basket? there sitting on a toilet but they pich there use tp in the trash can. wtf???? they flush after useing the toilet but the tp ends up in the trash can. is that normal in mexico???
so they leave shit covered paper in a bin??

Yeah. The sewer system in Mexico is unable to handle toilet paper in many places.
Just imagine what they think of us for not even having enough sense to put a wastebasket next to every toilet.
The part that I don't understand is why their fellow countrymen who have been here long enough to learn better don't just tell them to stop doing that!

..But yeah there definately shouldn't be used toilet paper in there, I have a mexican room mate and though we have alot of cultural differences, he's never once done this. So probably the people you're around just haven't gotten used to the change yet. Don't be so fucking judgemental, yeah it's gross but it's also fucking nasty when people pick up their dogs shit off the ground..
Like most bone brained conservatives, Mexican MEN seem incapable of changing stupid old ideas. I live with several of them, (hopes of ICE dance in my head!) and they seem hopelessly incapable of keeping anything clean (except their cars, hair and sneakers). In their small bathroom (oops Banyo) I put a huge 5 gal. blue bucket 3 feet away from the potty. Still the trash goes ... ON THE FLOOR. I think they actually take PRIDE in being filthy, it makes them feel more manly(machismo).
That is absolutely disgusting. How often do you empty the basket? Because the smell doesn't go away with time!
Asains have bad toilet habits too they wont use the urinal but insist on pissing in the bowl but dont lift the seat and deliberately piss on it
If they're from Mainland China especially it's likely due to the fact that their toilets are ONLY A HOLE IN THE FLOOR exactly what ours would be if the porcelain fixture were pulled up! To use the hole requires being agile enough to SQUAT all the way down till your butt touches your ankles. This position is more helpful to our body's organs and gets the job done faster. It's also more sanitary since the butt doesn't touch ANYTHING only the bottom of your shoes touch the floor(pissy or not). And it makes for cheaper bathroom construction and faster cleaning. It may also explain why most Chinese people have very well developed quadriceps from an early age to old age !!

O OK! i didn't understand. I can tell you why, I'm mexican, raised in mexico city. In mexico the toilets get clogged up really easy because the water rush is very slow... give us a break our technology sucks... so we always throw paper in the trash can. Even here i still have a habit of throwing paper in the toilet ... but yes it is normal in mexico.

In Mexico not everybody put the toilet paper in the basket, just some people, for sure is not good, but is their problem not yours, I was working here in the United States as a cleaning Lady in a no Latino Restaurant, the Restrooms......nasty sometimes, especially the ladies restroom, so don't say guys that the Mexicans are nasty, the North American people are nasty too, I know that.

Hahaha, This kind of dumb Mexican NEVER CLOSES anything, never returns an item to where they found it either. If I don't go behind them every 5 minutes all day and night the house would be a ridiculous comedy of cabinet drawers hanging out, doors wide open, tops off half full bottles and cans of everything (small wonder they know the word CUCARACHAS very well) pens, pencils, knives, forks, pliers EVERYTHING NOT NAILED DOWN or equipped with an automatic closer!! They left the kitchen trash can lid open(clue, it slides) so often I had to invent a lid closer from a stretchy shoelace! Since they aren't used to climate control in buildings (OR PAYING BILLS FOR HEATING/COOLING) I HAD TO install closer hinges on the entrance doors or else they'd stay wide open 24/7 (Dreams of I.C.E. dance in my head !!) I'm actually amazed that they CLOSE THEIR CAR DOORS while they drive but probably only because it helps make their music sound better?
the least you could do is not be rude after she told her reason for not throwing toilet paper in the trash can. its not like she's going to fix the damn septic tank herself. and anyways you don't live in her house, or any other mexican persons house if they want to throw tp in the trashcan let them throw toilet paper in the fucking trashcan or anywhere else they want to!
They fucking live in mine (let one in & like cockroaches, 1 became 4) and it totally SUCKS, If evicting didn't cost so much I'd have kicked 'em all out long ago. If I didn't have to sleep here I'd toss a grenade of SARIN in the window and zip up the body bags the next day.
The reason they do this is it makes it available for easy reuse should the need arise. You can't do that if you flush it. But seriously, it seems to be a cultural thing and it completely disgusts me! I live where there are a lot of Mexicans and this practice is in play in every public restroom. Walmart, McDonald's, you see it everywhere! If the trashcan is full they just throw it on the floor. This is and their insistence on speaking spanish are the sole issues I have with illegal immigrants. Otherwise they could all stay for all I care.

It's normal in most countries, because in the Philippines, they put their toilet paper in the trashcan. Because they don't want to clog the toilet and that's what happens. Don't have to be so prejudice.
I throw tp in the basket. I'm Hispanic but that has nothing to do with that fact. I live in a really small town (in the US) and have some sort of like septic tank thing that has to be emptied. Well my family (parents born in mexico) and I were flushing the tp, turns out that when we called the septic tank guy to empty it he told us not to flush tp cuz it creates some sort of problem with the tank or the machinery that empties it. I honestly don't remember, but yeah.. The name of this is just wrong and racist.. "toilet training mexicans" grow up.
jus by the by, mexico isn't the only place in the world where the pipelines are too small for the tp to get thru - quite a few cities in europe are like this (generally the poorer ones with older sewage systems). if any of u ever go on a yacht this is prob wat u'll need to do...

okay let me inform some of you ignorant racists on this post. First of all, America is not exclusive to the US. So those of you who are like "well, in America..." guess what? America includes South and Central America as well. Second of all, generalizing all Latinos or Mexicans just makes you look stupid and incredibly racist. Now to get to the toliet paper thing. Many different regions of the world have differnet customs. Just because one place doesn't have the same customs as where you live doesn't make it fucking disgusting and completely wrong. They do have a bin next to the toilet where you put the used toilet paper. Constantly putting paper in the toilet will eventually do a number on the pipes. Times have gotten better so this isn't much of an issue anymore, but the habit is still there. No, the bathroom doesn't smell like shit nor does the rest of the house. The bag gets changed everyday or so; some people change it every few hours. A lot of people also have trash bins with lids so you don't have to look at it and the smell is controlled. Plus, the bathroom door is normally closed.
Another thing is people talking about Mexicans or Latinos in general being dirty people and shit. I'm assuming none of you have stepped in a Mexican household. As a young child, you are taught to keep the house regularly clean and your mom would wake you up early to do what you guys call 'spring cleaning' every saturday. Dont blame your experience with one person on a whole race of people. Also, don't be a dick.

In mexico theres regular water shortages, due to poor infrastructure. They even have trucks that have to deliver water to people. due to this there will be times where sum house's wont flush there toilets up to 3-4 uses. so you can understand why its probably best not to put the tissue paper down the toilet.
ok, i grew up in texas doing that cause everyone i knew did it. when i finally moved on my own i forgot to buy a waste basket so i started flushing the tp. years later a friend asked me if all mexicans did that, and i had never thought about that. so i noticed one of my friends did it, i asked her and she was embarrased and quit doing it. now im trying to get my family to quit doing it, unsuccesfull.when i go to mexico they all do it and ask them why, and they dont know either. just the way we are taught, ive never clogged a toilet in mexico. lol. just habit to them

I'm also a white American who throws tp in the waste basket. My home's toilet and plumbing are less than perfectly reliable and I truly fear the thought of my toilet overflowing.
I've seen this in a lot of predominantly Hispanic parts of the U.S. I don't understand it, since toilet paper does NOT clog the toilet (unless you use way too much or your pipes are about 150 years old).
I believe the 'mexicans' you are referring to are not the only ones to have the habit of throwing toilet paper in the trashcan. If its a really strong odor/colorful piece, that is not the most polite thing to do. there could be alot of reasons, customs (like some europeans have), dont want to clog the toilet, and forgetfullness? or maybe its to confuse people like you, now that would be an interesting case indeed!

Does your local market ONLY sell one type of TP? There are many grades of TP some are thick like quilts and others are very thin but strong squares. If you use these or only a few of the cushy ones it shouldn't clog a pipe unless your pipes are already clogged with other stuff or tree roots and grease have gotten into the main sewer line choking it off to a trickle ??
Ahh probably this is the HOLY GRAIL FOR MEXICAN TOILETS! Maybe the problem is Mexicans(typically) toss anything and everything down drains, toilets, recycling bins (What's it for anyway) so long as it's easy and convenient. Probably Mexico's sewer lines are clogged up with GREASY FOOD SLIME and never get maintained (Roto-Rooter, Que??) so they barely carry any water at all away from anywhere!!

JeJe, I really laughed my lungs ouy of this story. I live in Chile (yes, the longest southern country in South America that's named after a condiment). Chile is considered as an uprising economy, and is steping fast on becoming a developed country, so, in case you're wondering: we do wear shoes, live in houses, have cars, internet, Coke, fine universities, bluetooth, iphones, etc. :o)
Nontheless: is very common in public places to find signs warning NOT to throw paper into the sink. As nancygonzalez stated before if you flush paper it all gets stucked. That is because the tank and toilet are smaller than the ones you use (I don't have the slightest idea of why). The toilets in old houses (say 30 years old or so) are bigger, but the modern ones and the ones that are on sale now are just tiny, you wont find larger sizes :o)
Go visit a friend who lives in the country, they most likely with have a septic tank and many of those people don't flush the paper because it will stop up the toilet.
We need to approach this issue from a MUCH different angle. Now in Meico, folks are generally poor. They dont have the same resources we have here. Anything that gets flushed is considered WASTE. NO ONE EVER RECYCLED ANYTHING AT THE SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT. So, as odd as it may seem, they toss the paper in the basket because they know it will eventually get recycled, not burnt to shitty ash. So do mexicans need to be toilet trained like americans, thats a matter of opinion. Do americans need to be environmentally trained like the mexicans, ABSOLUTELY.

-The real reason they don't flush the tp is because much of Central and South America's infrastructure can not handle the tp in their pipes. I know because I have been to Mexico and Honduras on mission trips and this is the norm down there.
