Toilet seat up or down?

Why do men always have to put the seat down? Why can't she lift the seat up?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • If the guy makes the mistake about the seat, pee gets on it

If the girl makes the mistake, her butt gets soaked

Both have good reasons to check first

Also, the lid should be closed. Everything that just went in the toilet? The germs and stuff basically cover a six foot radius, scientifically tested

How close is your tooth brush to the toilet???

One of the roomates I lived with during my college years did the dishes right next to the toilet bowl.

Compromise: The seat is removed completely and all parties agree to piss and defecate in the sink

I believe that it's proper manners to have both the seat, and lid down when the toilet is not in use.

Yes, it is. There is also a correct way to leave the toilet paper but I forget which way round it goes.

TP roll should be arranged so that the end of the paper hangs free at the front of the roll (opposite the wall-side).

There is logic to this. When wiping your butt, there is the possibility of faecal contamination of your fingers. If the end of the TP is resting against the wall, there can be transfer of faeces from fingers to wall. Then, when the next user pulls off some TP, they can pick up what all the previous users left behind.

Why do women complain about the seat being up, but then leave the lid open?

YES! As a woman, I find that gross. What reason is there for leaving it up, anyway?

Testing that has been done shoes that when a toilet is flushed the aerosolised spray from said toilet someone just shit or pissed in, that micro spray can travel 6 feet and land on the toothbrush holder , oh and your toothbrushes in the holder. It can end up on a hand towel that you are about to wipe your face with. Maybe you have a hair brush on the side of the sink. When you flush that toilet those micro dots of aerosolised shit and piss is now on your hair brush. So you wipe your face with a face towel, and brush your teeth with tooth brush and brush your hair with a hair brush ALL OF WHICH have micro drops of piss and shit on them.

So now I ASK YOU - SEAT AND LID UP OR DOWN ? I have signs in my bathroom, close seat and lid when done. It's
    something I insist on.

The seat and lid should be down anyway because you are meant to close them before you flush, and I believe it is proper etiquette for the toilet lid to be closed when not in use as it covers up the naughty stinky place.

In my house it's just left however the last person used it. My kids have terrible aim and make a disgusting mess. I fully clean my toilet at least 3 times a week.

Yet another reason to rejoice, and enjoy the single life, because both the the toilet seat, and lid in my house are down when not in use. The only time my toilet seat is up in my house is when I clean the toilet, otherwise it's toilet seat down.

Seat and lid down, every time. Only solution. If I have to lift something up every time, so do they. Lol

Since I’m out numbered, I don’t really care. I do prefer that people close the lid before flushing though. But I’m aware that’s a lost cause.

My point exactly. I will put it down for her, when I am done. If she lifts it for me, when she is done. It's only fair.

The thing that bothers me more is people who insist on leaving the toilet lid up. WHY!? It never fails that the people who do this also tend to leave a huge mess in the toilet that one flush doesn't take care of, too.

But, I guess if you leave the seat up, the lid will be up as well. I actually understand why guys do that, though, but not why a toilet lid should be left up.

If anyone actually told me to put the seat down I’d think they were really weird and petty.

Whoever last went can leave it up or down depending on what they want. Unless your girlfriend/boyfriend is retarded/disabled and genuinely can't stop falling in the toilet, or you have one of those toilet seats that takes agggesss to fall then this is a pretty easy one to answer.

The man will want it up and the woman will want it down. The man has to pick it up and the woman has to push it down. It's equal in pretty much everything. If you give in to your partner over this then you should live with the knowledge that you're submissive and doing something for them they clearly would not do for you.

Btw if someone wants both lids closed then that's a cleanliness thing so it's not really the same issue.

If you've ever had a cat, you quickly learn that it's best to keep the toilet seat and the lid down, after you use the toilet...

As I was growing up we had a cat, now I have my own cat and it's second nature to me. Also it's more hygienic. Flush with everything closed.

Down out of sheer laziness. I got good aim so it's not a problem for my toilet. I put it up if I have a party or something since a female coming into my house is a rarity in of itself.

I lift it up if I am peeing or down if I need to release some brownies.

I'm a guy, and I always lift the seat before I pee because I know from experience that my aim ain't perfect. I wouldn't want to sit down on the toilet and then realise the seat is damp, so I'm considerate enough of others not to set up that situation for them. Lifting the seat requires less effort than wiping down the seat with TP.

I always put the seat back down because neither of the other two people I live with pee standing up.

I'm well aware of the results of studies into what happens when you flush with the lid up, but I never put it down, and neither do my wife or daughter. So far, we haven't died of cholera or come down with any other dire disease spread via faeces, and our cats seem to occasionally enjoy sampling the water in the bowl as a change to the flavourless stuff in their water bowl.
