To want to be in some type of accident?

Car crash, plane crash, anything. Nothing permanently debilitating or deadly, but just enough to be considered serious. For example, last summer I broke my wrist and despite the pain was one of the best experiences I have had in a long time. The surgery, the hospital, everything. Does this make sense let alone is it normal?

Is It Normal?

  • What about the experience did you like? I figure you don't like the pain, so is it the attention? The medication effects? The down time? I figure the specific part of the experience, rather than the accident itself, is what you are really wanting.

    • I think you pretty much said it. I think it's a combination of those 3 things. It bothers me that I actually want it in this manner.

  • Reminds me of a quote from Waking Life..

"Jacqamedie, was once run down by a car, and he recalled being lulled into a lucid state, a sudden exhiliration, as he recalls thinking, 'At last! Something is happening to me!'"

  • People here are NUTS! How can anyone think that wanting to be injured in an accident is NORMAL?!!! People who get off on getting injured, being in the hospital and so on are mentally ill!

  • I was like that when I was a gradeschooler.

  • Run in front of a car, get the medical attention you want. Also, sue the driver for assault or attempt murder. It's a win win for you

  • I had an accident earlier this year. I was in a coma for two days, sustained a traumatic brain injury, had surgery on my leg, and I couldn't walk for 6 weeks. I've made a pretty remarkable recovery, and I feel very lucky. It could have been a lot worse. But I've had to overcome a *lot* of shit. Its been hell. My life was turned upside down. I have felt like giving up at times. I will never be the same again, and I feel like I've been changed for the better.I have a new found appreciation for life. But it has been the hardest, most awful thing I have ever had to go through, I wouldn't wish it upon anyone.

Sometimes I enjoy the attention I get, especially from women, but the pleasure I get from people's attention does not compare to the suffering I've been through.

You seem fickle to me. Is it attention you want? Or do you want a life changing experience?

It is not what happened to me- my injury- that changed my life, its how I dealt with it. You dont need to have something awful happen to you so that you can be better person. If you think so, you're naive. Because if you think of yourself as a shitty person, you aren't going to be any different after a serious accident, the way you deal with it will be shitty too.

  • But is the attention worth the pain?

  • Attention is what you seek

  • You could easily make that happen

  • I was like that when I was a kid. I think because being in the hospital was a somewhat positive experience what with all the attention and chocolate milk I could drink. Anyway I forgot that I had that little senerio in my mind until now. Funny how the mind works. Thanks for the post.

  • I don't find that normal at all, lol. One thing to fantasize about it, and another to actually want it for real.
