  • Sleep needs vary a little, but I'm with others who say 18 hours a day definitely isn't normal and you should see a doc.

There loads of possible psychological and physiological reasons, and nobody here will be able to diagnose you. The cause could be relatively benign and treatable, but it could be something more serious.

  • I actually have the same issue. I could sleep all day if I had the time to. It has something to do with my blood. Caffeine helps somewhat even though I'm still tired. I suggest seeing a doctor or asking your family if it's something genetic.

  • Do you have sleep apnea, and hypothyroidism by any chance?

    • I’m not the OP but you offer a plethora of credible health advice. I too suffer from chronic fatigue, but also chronic thirst and weight loss. I hate going to the doctor, but do you think it is hypothyroidism?

      • I honestly don't know, only a doctor can diagnose you with hypothyroidism. He will have to order some blood tests for you to see how your thyroid is functioning.

          • P.S. You're very welcome. Also try to get proper rest, make sure you always drink plenty of water. If you get dehydrated it will zap the energy right out of you.

          • Oh, I know it ain't easy. Today my cat had to go to the vet for a problem with one of his anal glands. Then I went with my mom to the Walmart, and we bought multiple cases of bottled water. I know I need to work out more, because my muscles are really sore from having my arms full with one thing, or another all day. Mostly dealing with the cases of bottled water, 32 bottles of 16 oz of water per case. It was so hot today!

Like I said, I know I'm really out of shape. When I was in my early thirties I worked graveyard shift stocking at Target in Las Vegas after I left my first first ex-husband for cheating, and that job was nothing but moving, and lifting stuff. I used to be pretty strong. Now at 49 I don't feel quite so strong. I started having some chronic pain when I was 42, and eventually got diagnosed with myofascial pain by a rheumatologist.

Anyway, enough about me. I hope you can see a doctor, and get to feeling better very soon!

  • Every single day? You have some severe medical shit going on buddy. See your doctor immediately.

  • If it's recent, then it's likely treatable. If you've always been this way, then you are what you are.

  • You are deep in depression. See your Dr.

  • It's definitely not normal. You should try to talk to a doctor to see if their is some underlying condition such as narcolepsy and/or if there is something that can be done to help you stay awake and focused for longer periods of time.

  • Same, but I think that's because I (literally) stay up for days on end.
