Thoughts echoing for days (or longer) on end

Alright so I'm Autistic and basically I have echolalia and shit but it's also in my head. Like, I get weird ass phrases stuck in my head for days, weeks, months, used to be years when I was little. I'll think one main thought like "what am I going to eat today?" but the phrase stuck in my head will play at the same time like background music. I may not have ever heard it before but it'll be there. There's been weird things like "Eat my ass Jerry Springer!" Or "Harrison Ford is nothing but a worthless junkie!" I didn't even know who these people were before those started echoing and even worse some of them I say out loud, such as the Jerry Springer one. My friends are used to the echolalia but not other people. Anyways, anyone else, autistic or not, get this for this long amount of time? Like, weeks or longer non stop? Keeping you awake at night?

There was a phrase in my head for weeks, "Comme tu t'appelle?". It's "What is your name?" in French. I'm not autistic though.

Yes, this is fine, I've had the same problem not too long ago. For months on end I kept having the thought "f--k God!" and "hail Satan!" that I kept receiving the same way that you have an inner mental voice that is present whenever you read a book in your head. - The only thing about this, was that it was persistent and the harder I tried to fight against it the worse it got. So I embraced it, and now it's all gone away - the trick is not to fight it.

Of course, if even that does not work you may just have to live with it, but learn to have a sense of humor, occupy your mind with other things, and things should be fine!

I have OCD and I have this. Certain phrases or music sometimes get stuck in my head for days

  • This is quite normal for people with your condition. I have worked with many young people who have this trait. One young man I worked with would recite whole scenes from films he liked. He would go through the same scene over and over again for weeks on end. Suddenly he would be reciting a different scene, sometimes from the same film and sometimes from a different one. Sometimes he would revert back to a scene we hadn't heard for a while from him, and would be stuck on that again for ages. It is just the way the condition manifests itself in you. You can't really cure it, just try to manage it.
