Thought: trees are just giant grass

Once upon a time, every plant was short. Then some of them grew taller and taller and their stems had to get sturdier so they didn't just flop over. Now here we are surrounded by this giant grass that we call trees. Giant fucking grass. Or maybe we used to be so big that trees were like grass as we know it but then the human race shrunk? Oh sweet 8lb 6oz baby Jésus, which one is it????

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • All plant life was in the oceans. Then they crept onto land and because of the climate all kinds of plants thrived. They spread like heck, evolved and grew bigger and bigger. Tiny trees gobbled up so much delicious sunlight and carbon dioxide that they became giant trees, all competing for sunlight. Trees spread and grew so high that the oxygen levels, in the atmosphere and oceans, increased so much that it caused a mass extinction. Creatures began to move onto the land, evolution, evolution and here we are today.

  • Trees are more complex plants then grass, at some point they branches off from a common ancestor possibly ancient lichen.

    • Yes but trees weren't always as complex as they are now. They were like grass at one point, so trees are what you get if you let grass run rampant for a few years or so. Isn't it just more fun to look at trees as big grass, anyway?

      • Comparing trees and grass is like comparing ants to humans.

  • By that logic, a bear is a large, fat dog.

    • They are, basically! Dogs and bears both belong to the suborder "caniformia" (literally "dog like").

    • I always wondered what bears were. Thanks.
