This song makes me feel hopeless

Is it normal that the song, "That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be", by Carly Simon is so depressing that it just makes me want to slit my wrist, or something?

    • That was pretty good. Yeah, that bit about Katy Perry's lyrics was hilarious!

Yeah a lot of songs are very sad. Most of them are the older ones not this pop crap. I thought " A.I." the movies ending was depressing af.

No a movie from the 1990s. Haley Joel Osment and Jude Law.

I love really sad, dark songs. They are perfect for when you're depressed because they just kinda "get" you, and when you're happy you can listen to them because they're just beautiful and they strangely make me feel kinda powerful when i'm happy.

It's a nice song, but here is one that can bring a tear to my eye under the right circumstances... ELO's Alone in the universe.

Perfect theme song for me. Random guy somewhere wanting to go home, but being stuck away from home. Unable to go home.

I doubt most people here know who Carly Simon is, let alone that song.
I had to check it out myself, came out three years before I was born. I am familiar with Carly. That song is really good and speaks much truth. I can see where it would invoke emotions.

Dare I ask, is Rose the OP? She is probably the only other person on here who knows Carly.

I don’t think she would recommend slitting her wrists though.
Give us more credit! I’m a pretty big James Taylor fan.

      • Naw, James Taylor is not to my taste with regard to the folk rock genre. I prefer Bob Dylan. I actually kinda like Carly Simon, but that song is so sad.

I love Enya and her sister. In fact when i was really depressed the first song i reacted to was by Moya( Enyas sister). Love the Irish language

Yep, the OP has got to be Rose. That song echoes from the walls of an Oubliette that harbors a soul even emptier than the chamber under the locked hatch on the ceiling.
If the OP is Rose, please know that some of us are scarred by physical things that make our souls as empty as yours.

Here's a better song. It reminds me of my departed wife.

No not normal. Don't slit your wrists, world wouldn't be the same without you and I would feel sorry for whom ever has to clean it up.
