I actually grew up on a large ranch where there were many goats all over the place, probably about 20 at most any given time. Although I find it a bit odd that you consider yourself terrified of them, I'll also let you know that you're not missing much.
Goats are filthy, nasty creatures that will defecate anywhere and everywhere, and will eat damn near anything. I mean ANYTHING! I've even seen where one had eaten chunks off of a screwdriver handle! Of course there's the annoying sound they make too, but that's harmless except to one's patience.
Don't get me wrong, goats can even be trained to be house pets, but it's not terribly common, especially for civilized people. In their natural habitat; however, they can be mean and even violent. Male goats have horns for a reason you know, and they WILL use them if not trained better. I'm sure the ones at the zoo have been around humans for quite long enough to be generally tame.
I think your fear is somewhat similar to people's natural fear of snakes. Instinctually, you're not sure what to make of them because you've probably never seen them before. There's not much to really like about them, but you shouldn't be terrified of them.
As a matter of fact, some goats are naturally terrified of humans if you run at them. Some of them will be so scared that they will pass out immediately and fall to the ground!
BTW, deer are part of the goat family.
You like Bambi?
This is going to sound ridiculous...

Thanks for your help. (:
Bambi sure wasn't scary,
but I'm sure if I came across her (him?) in real life, I'd poo my pants. :D
Animals just weird me out.
Especially goats. :O
