The dude doesn't seem the confusing part, you are probably the confusing one to him. First you ignore him, and then you really like him. Since he basically faced your rejection once, I think you owe it to him to put some effort into flirting and perusing him.
As for the change in wardrobe? People change. They see new things they like, and you see things you like. Do not get too strung up about it. I am not sure if this is the type of answer you were shooting for, buuuut there ya go
