Third-person memories?

Just about all my memories are in third person, it's been like that ever since I was just a kid. I can't seem to get a straight answer anywhere, so I guess I'll just put it here.

Our memories work differently at different times. Some of it is mindset, some of it is what details you pay attention to.

I have memories of photos and stories and videos, which kinda saved as third person. Which makes sense, it's my own memories combined with a different perspective. I remember first person more often though.

I think this is because I'm autistic, but actually most of my memory is more like text. I remember words better than pictures. I used to be more of a visual thinker but something changed when I was in jr high. I can visualize things but it's harder for me than to "write" these memories with words.

One other tangential note, there are a few theories about why we can't remember our earliest memories. The most common theory is that babies simply haven't developed that part of the brain yet. But my favorite theory is that they remember in a different manner; as we mature we develop better and more effective ways to store memories, and we actually forget how to "read" those original memories.

It's normal. Some people only have memories that are third person. Other's are always first person. Some people even have points in their life where memories switch from being first person to third. Generally the farther back that you go, the more likely it's in third person.

People describe it like they are watching a TV show which they are a character in. Nothing is wrong with you, incase you are worried about it.
