Think that mental disease should be avoided if possible in newborns?

  • Some people believe that homosexuality is an impairing mental disorder. I'm not one of those people, hence why I mentioned it.

And I do not believe that anyone who is "no longer of use" should be killed - I think you misread what I wrote. I believe that if you knowingly bear a child who will have a lifelong disorder that prevents them from integrating with society and contributing, that you should end the pregnancy. I guess you could say that my opinion extends to unborn children with debilitating physical disorders that will kill them shortly - 5-10 years down the line, or which will leave them severely disabled to the point where they'll need to be hooked up to a machine their whole lives.

It's not like, "Oh, you're a paraplegic? Okay, time to ship you off to the death camp." I'm only talking about disorders that literally impair a person to the point where they can hardly do ANYTHING.

Additionally, although people with Downs are very affectionate, the large amount of people I know who do not have someone disabled in their family (or who work with mentally disabled people) are actually afraid of Downs patients and their overfriendliness. They claim it makes them a bit uncomfortable to be hugged or touched by them when they are at the grocery store or something of the sort. So sure, they spread smiles to a limited number of people. There are a million other things that can do that as well, or better.
