Sure, it was like elephant flatulence mixed with straw. Maybe the circus was a bad analogy. Better would be the elephant house at the zoo. He smelled pretty much exactly like that, and it was very strong.
I'm not sure it was BO. I got the feeling he'd still smell this way straight after a shower. Either way, I was glad when I got away from him. I think I'd have suffocated if I was stuck in an elevator with him.
