Especially with religion, people start to build ideas on things unproven. This is called dogma. There's no proof for a god yet some to decide to believe. With that belief comes more assessments, based on a belief based in dogma.
Psyches can be frail, and when someone presents information that contradicts our dogma, our preconceived notions, we get defensive because to admit defeat or being wrong we're admitting we're lacking so much intellectualism that we're able to fervently believe in presuppositions and then forego them for anything that might make a little more sense
It's the human condition you're noticing. If you can see and understand this and are upset by it then perhaps you should look into philosophy more than religion
I'm not upset by it, people's feelings over puritanical faith are a joke, I like laughing at the feeling. And furthermore it's silly and I feel ridiculous.
