    Trump's election strongly goes against this. It's approaching late stage democracy with increased demagoguery.

    Tbf though, it is becoming way more authoritative. They just suspended a shit load of freedoms for something as pathetic as covid, and gun laws have been hammered down for ages. And you're right about the War on Terror pushing the state towards more totalitarian means too.

    I think it's now down to corporations though, or some sinister plot by the state. People generally care little for freedom nowadays and are happy to get rid of them for a little security.

    Yeah this is old news. Media is propaganda, elections are manipulated, lots of tax money goes to shady things that the public are unaware of.

    It's the old trick of promising a better tomorrow to keep people complacent in terrible situations in the present. They were doing this in the dark ages.
