Is there point to the gratuitous mysoginistic abuse at the beginning of your post?
Yr second paragraph is total rubbish: some words can be (and frequently are) INTENDED to be offensive, usually clear from tone of voice, context, body language etc. From what you're saying, racial abuse would be OK, because it doesn't matter what the intention of the abuser is, it's not offensive until someone is offended? Would that include Nazi anti-semitic propoganda?
I also find the different attitudes to Fuck and Cunt nteresting; it's very puzzling that a word for the sexual act which brings us into existence (leaving out IVF etc) has become much more acceptable, but the word for the place from which we emerge (leaving out caesarian sections) it not only unacceptable but too offensive to be said or written down.
Personally, I object to Cunt being used as a swear word to insult someone, because it feels denigrating of women to me and I think cunts are wonderful. I do use Fuck as a swear word without feeling or implying any denigration of the sex act (far from it!) but because to someone of my generation who didn't hear anyone say Fuck until I was in my 20's, the word has enough charge to be an effective stress release.
They are still just words. They do not carry any power unless one chooses to place power in them.
There are plenty of words I choose not to utter, especially the 'N' word because I do not wish to lower myself to that level. However, cunt and fuck or most of the others in that vein, are not even necessarily hateful, but can definitely evoke forceful feelings from me.
I'm not surprised that you personally feel denigrated by the use of a word like cunt, even if its not directed at you. I'm sure we are miles apart on the idiocy of political correctness, as well. But that's another thread.
I will not disparage you by saying that your opinions are "total rubbish", because I respect YOUR right to them, even if I do not agree.
"Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me", especially if I choose not to let them. Grow up!
I can't work out if you're funny on purpose or accidentally, eg telling me to grow up immediately after your schoolyard taunt? Seems like you were offended by my use of the term "rubbish" - was my irony too subtle for you?
In my experience people who denigrate so-called "political correctness" as idiocy, repressive, etc ignore the fact that the term came into common useage in radical circles in the 70's, initially used by hardliners and then taken over as a joke amongst ourselves.
It's now become a term to denigrate such things as respect for diversity and support for equal opportunity rights, especially by ageing white male right wingers.
What would ever give you the impression I was a right winger? That is just an idiotic assumption.
I'm not going to waste my time discussing PC with you, as I said above.
This discussion with you feels like I'm dealing with a man hating feminist ('ourselves'), whose arguments must be personal because they have no substance. It is far from the witty repartee you seem to think it is. I find you a most unpleasant person to try to communicate with, therefor I shall do it no more, here.
The f-word is acceptable but the c-word isn't?
