If your self-talk (which is VERY normal) is degrading, you need to sit down with yourself and have a heartfelt discussion setting boundaries. Self-talk ought to be beneficial, not an emotional baseball bat used to kick yourself when you're down. Be good to you, and you'll be better at being good to others.
