Their are better uses for blankets. Using them to make a general statement about something you obviously don't know much about sounds a bit, well, American. I live in stumptown, we pride ourselves in eluding the skyscraper and love our big trees :)
OP- you are just nervous. I'm sure you'd feel the same way if you were moving to Alaska (assuming you don't live there now). But the world is connected, get skype and a web cam to ease the separation.
