Tell me..

Tell me, I'm rather angry at this moment in time, but is it normal for one's family to have a day where they choose to have a go at me for everything example; they start complaining about my vegetarian choices and I ask them to stop because we really don't see eye to eye on this subject and they continue and it escalates to the point where they show just how much they disrespect me. Example two; my 'father' gets annoyed with me and almost breaks one of my drumkit skins. I don't have a relationship with my father...
(I'm female just so you know) we've never had a full conversation (seriously) in my entire life and because he buys me something or gives me a lift here or there on occasion, he expects me to 'love' him. I can't and it's his fault I'm an insecure person...
..Sorry I've ranted a bit but... Normal?

Is It Normal?
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • Damn...this sounds so similar to how things are like for me sometimes. I'm not vegetarian (have considered it), but just the way my family seems to have a go at me...and my relationship with my dad is the same way!
I hope things look up. Normal unfortunately.

  • I hope things have settled for you since you posted this. I just wanted to say that your anger definitely colours things. However imperfect they and you may be, you were sounding a bit harsh toward your family, your Dad in particular.

  • Yeah .. I'm suffering from this too. They hardly agree on anything I do and it's so damn annoying!!

It's not normal that your fathers breaks your stuff, it's disrespectful.

Maybe you can talk it out with your father tell him that it hurt you him doing this? or.. I don't know how things go around your house, maybe you let your mom tell him?

I hope things get better with you.

  • I would agree about the time of the year, but these things happen throughout... Additionally I already cook my own food... In relation to my father, I have no intentions nor desires of being close to him, but he expects me to care for him etc when the only relationship I've had with him has been based entirely on superficial moments...

But thanks for your comment (: I must admit it's pretty hard to change my view on any subject (not saying that I'm close-minded, because I'm not)... X

  • Unfortunately, it is normal, especially around this time of year when everybody's stressed to the max. If you want to reduce friction about the vegetarian thing, maybe cook your own food? That's what I did, and it reduced the amount of arguments about my eatin habits a fair bit. I'm sorry to hear about your relationship with your da, but if you'd like to be closer to him maybe you could say to him?
