Talking to parents

Is it normal to struggle to have a conversation with your parents. I always feel like it is hard to articulate myself and usual just end up saying nothing because I don't know what to say when I am having a serious conversation with my parents. Does anyone else have this problem or do something similar?

Before my mother and I had our fight that lasted 3 years, I couldn't say anything to her without her twisting my words. After we made up she has become my best friend and I talk to her about everything and anything (mainly because I stopped giving a rats behind what she thinks of me anymore and have come to notice she has to accept me for who I am).
My dad and I have always been able to talk about anything and everything, though he's only really been in my life for the past 5 years
My grandparents (who mostly raised me), I was always a little apprehensive of telling them things, but have now realized their wisdom and I go to them mostly to help solve my problems, or to gossip about the rumor mill at work, or the new guy I am crushing on, whatever comes up (trying to get my younger cousin to notice that they may be old, but they are pretty cool after all)

In time I am sure that you will find it easier to talk with them. It's taken me almost 30 years to just realize that my parents and parental figures are pretty awesome and have probably lived through what I have, and can carry a good conversation with them about it. =^^= hang in there!

I have similar problems, but I tend to freeze up whenever it comes to making any decisions or talking about my feelings to anybody in person, so it's probably more because of that.

They say they wanna be your best friend and wont judge you but then once you say something they critisize you and go against you. Thats what my mom does so i dont bother to tell her anything. She says she knows me so well yet she dont. Even my brother knows me better ha

I sort of understand how you feel. Although I can talk to my mom about pretty much anything, it's impossible for me to have a serious conversation with my dad because he has a "my way or the highway" attitude towards serious topics.

Do they criticise you? Do they comment on the way you speak or what you say? Sometimes this can undermine one's confidence to the point where it's easier to say nothing.

They sometimes criticise me, but it is usually because I don't really know what I want to do with my life. It is easier to say nothing so that is what I usually do.

yes...Idk if they are dumb or if it just me. I just stop trying some times because what is the point anymore you know.
