My best friend was a waifuist and it was one of the factors leading to the breakdown of our relationship. It started to really disturb me, the way she talked about him as if he were real, the constant posting about him, the fact that she wouldn't listen to anyone when they told her it was unhealthy. Eventually a relationship with a fictional character will destroy you. You'll spend all your time being a recluse masturbating to pics of them, you'll never gain any real dating experience, if it ever comes out that you're a waifuist people will judge you harshly. You just can't get an actual relationship out of a fictional character. All the ups and downs and nuances are lost because it's completely one sided, and when you realize they can't reciprocate, they're not real and can't love you back, you get depressed.
