  • In England, if you place a postage stamp upside down, it's an act of treason if it has the Queen's image on the stamp (most of them do).

In the houses of parliament, it is perfectly legal to commit murder but it is illegal to die. If someone kills you in the houses of parliament, you're the one who has committed the crime.

      • Oh, there are shedloads of them. It's illegal to eat mince pies on Christmas Day. You can buy lemons on a Sunday but not oranges. One of best ones is about lying to the Inland Revenue. If they ask you something you don't want them to know, you've got to tell the truth. But if it's something you're happy for them to know, you're allowed to lie about it. All the swans in Britain are the property of the Queen. And if a whale or shark is beached on the British shore the body belongs to the King and the tail belongs to the Queen.

None of this stuff ever gets enforced, by the way. It's just legally still on the statue books because no-one has repealed it or come up with a law which trumps it.

        • I forgot. You're not allowed to buy a bible on a Sunday.

        • That's so amusing, I now know what I'll be using as my dinner table anecdotes from now on! Thanks so much for telling me! :D ^.^

        • Also it's illegal to eat any poultry other than goose on christmas day. Just about everyone in the country is a criminal because of that one (except me, i don't like turkey).
