Stabbing pains around ribcage

I've started having stabbing pains and random cramps on the sides of my ribcage, especially the right side, as well as my shoulder down under my armpit and down through the whole arm. My upper back hurts also. I dont know what it is. I have started streching in case its my muscles but that doesnt help.
Yesterday I was just standing outside and all of a sudden my right side ribcage and arm starts cramping so hard I can barely stand. This morning when I woke up there was stabbing in the ribcage on the right side also then later it got better now its stabbing a little again. I dont feel like going to the dr with this I have to take the bus and also they never take you seriously healthcare sucks these days most likely he'll tell me its the muscles and to make an appointment with my physical therapist.

Is It Normal?

  • There’s a monster in your chest. And in a few hours, it’s gonna burst its way through your rib cage, and you’re gonna die. Any questions?

  • I've had these. In the end I figured out that I was short of appropriate salts in my diet. Not just sodium, but potasium.

In the USA (and I know it exist in other countries too) is something called "lite salt" which is 50% sodium chloride (normal salt) and 50% potassium Chloride.

I suggest you get it and drink a teaspoon dissolved in a glass of water - a day for several days. After that once a week is usually enough; or you can just start using this as your normal salt.

I apparently have a problem with potassium and just need to use this "lite salt" routinely to keep things balanced.

Now it may be something else. But, cramps are often caused by improper electrolyte balance - and "lite salt" address that.

  • So you have lots of excuses not to seek medical advice but you want us to diagnose your problem via the internet? Good luck with that ....

  • You didnt mention ur age and gender. Do u exercise or do daily lifting?

There is a benign but painful condition called costochondritis and tietze's syndrome which can cause pain in the ribs which may or may not radiate to the arm. The condition can cause pain which is identical to heart attack. Otc painkillers such as ibuprofen can help with the pain.
