Someone still your friend if they don’t accept your friend request?

My friend and I had a falling out. When I attempted to smooth things over and bury the hatchet, they said we were cool, but don’t want to accept my friend request because they need space.
There’s no telling they will accept my request in the future.

    Actually not such a bad issue, they have told you why they did not immediately accept your request which is pretty civil. Give them time you guys will be fine.

    Personally I wouldn't spend a lot of time worrying about that issue. Maybe this was a easy out for them. And I would just move on.
