I was taught to drive neither, by my parents that is. I had to wait until I was married and then my husband and his parents helped me learn how to drive. His dad had trucker's experience so that's how I learned to drive stick.
My friend's dad taught me how to drive a motorcycle when I was around 14-15. And my dad was a mechanic of sorts and he likes fixing cars so we had a wide variety of beaters to learn on. His theory, if you can drive a piece of shit, you can drive anything. I actually learned on a giant boat of a car. And then I learned the beauty of power steering. But my mom refused to drive anything with an automatic engine so I had to learn manual.
So, you're an above average driver eh?
