So is my "dark" apperance normal?

I have 17 piercings, 8 tattoos - and will be getting more of both. I feel most comfortable when I'm wearing mesh, fishnet, leather, chains, eyeliner etc. However everyone stares at me like i have two heads. So is dark appearance normal?

Its normal if that's what makes you comfortable. Who cares what other people think about it. It was the same for me when I was a teenager. I had a mohawk, liberty spikes, shave head, every color possible, etc. (And I'm a girl)(well, woman now) Not all at once of course. I still have 11 peircings, I took 5 out over the years, and I have like 12 tats which is not enough at all! Do whatever makes you you, man!

it's normal, sadly, there's a price to pay when you dress so different... As long as it's worth the staring then you'll be fine :) make sure to stare right back at them.

That's actually the issue. I don't dress like that to be noticed. I dress like that because it's how I feel truly comfortable with myself. The being noticed part just seems to happen :s

It's defs normal. A lot of people looked at me extremely oddly when I had my collarbones, cleavage, and cheeks pierced. See, the thing is.. I don't even think that I LOOK that nice with piercings, I just love knowing that I have them in my body. :S

Johnny Bravo's a bit of a retard as he clearly didn't read all the posts. I don't do it for attention. I dress like this because I feel comfortable. Fuck the "haters". I'm not emo... and I'm twenty-two years old turning 23 this year...clearly not a teen anymore. :P

I'm not sure what ItDuz is talking about. I'm not look to be like some dark entity or some shit. I just feel good in what I wear and I feel comfy in my pjs too (which are nice and cottony :P)

This question intrigues me as it is something I have wondered about. You would think that goth teens would not want to be hassled the last thing they want is to be stared or God forbid asked question by a bunch of mundanes. But outlandish make up and dress invite stares and questions. It is quite comical to image a kid with dyed black hair in fishnets, platform shoes and black patent leather trench coat saying "I just want to be left alone and treated normally?" Why dress in an attention arousing manner if you don't want to be the subject of attention.

Also the poster says that they feel most comfortable in leather, fishnet, and chains. I must assume that their definition of comfort is very different that mine because I am most comfortable in my PJ's.

get used to the stares. it doesn't matter how 'progressive' a society we think we are, the fact of the matter is that people aren't accepting of freaks. i say freaks with utmost affection, for i am a freak myself :) i got my 1st tattoo at 18, and here i am, almost 16 years later, a very proudly modified woman.

silly story sidebar: about...10 years ago i was grocery shopping. people kept giving me strange, disapproving stares. i thought to myself, "WTF, do i have a stain on my shirt or a booger in my nose?" then i remembered...my hair was very bright blue at the time!

you'll get used to the stares, the questions, the ugly faces people make at you. sadly, it's the price you pay for not being drab and common.

It's normal but people find it strange. I mean you dress like that to be noticed and so people do notice. People in general like to get a good look at things that they don't usually see and that they find intriguing.

When you consider the the current average live expectancy and that fact that most people do not marry or start a family until their mid to late thirties I would say that at your current age you are most definitely in stage of extended adolescence though perhaps not a "teen" by strict definition :P

  • Roflmao at comment above. But answering your question, I think it is normal to have a few tats and maybe one or two piercing if you are a dude. I plan to get some in the future, but if you are just inking your whole body, then you are just ruining it, you should moderate yourself or people will find you strange like they do now...

Lol I do stare back sometimes because it's so annoying at times, when they stare so obviously. And when I do, they either look threatened or offended lmao.

Well if that's how you feel comfortable then do it. People are goingto stare though. So if that bothers you too much you could always tone it down. But do what makes you happy. Try not to think about them staring. I would just think it's funny and stare right back haha.

PS I always figured people did it to be looked at haha ;)

  • i wouldnt say its a dark apearance more of a fake dark appearance because u put eyeliner on and dont have a natural dakr apearance i would say ur either emo or goth style which none is "dark"
shuving feathers up ur ass doesnt make u a chicken
meaning because u put stuff on to have a dark apearance doesnt make u be anything dark atall
