  • Happy birthday!

My experience is that the big "milestone" ages like 18 and 21 (here in the US, you have to be 21 to drink) are never the life-changing events you expect them to be growing up. You're still the same person you went to bed as the night before when you were still 17.

To be honest, I don't think anyone really feels like a "real adult" at 18, or much different than they did at 17. I know I didn't. It was probably not until around 19 1/2 or 20 that things started to really change.

Even at 25, I still feel like a kid some ways, and it feels super weird to watch my peers get married and have kids, because it doesn't seem like we should be that old yet!

I do think getting a job and planning for a career are good moves to make, though!

    • I am old enough to be your mother and I still don't feel like a "real adult". Anyone who feels like a real adult is probably kidding themselves.

      • I agree. I still don't feel like one! I feel like more of one than I did a few years ago, but am definitely still a kid in a lot of ways and very young at heart.
