So i'm now 18 years old

Which is the age I should be on this website, I was scared of change however I feel like I'm not yet worthy of the title adult even though I am 18. But I guess its cool that I can now drink some alcohol and get laid with a chick but I should now find a job.

I deleted the other post with the same name because I accidently double posted.

      • It felt weird to legally be acknowledged as an adult at first for me too

That feeling goes away though, I think you'll turn out a fair adult

    Happy birthday normie!

I felt like a fake adult for ages after I turned 18, it wears off in time.

Only vote if you know the person/party you are voting for. An uninformed voter is worse than no vote.

Honestly, don't stress over getting a job right away. Take your time and figure out the things in life that make you really happy. Our society is way too work obsessed and it's not healthy. Biologically you're actually still a kid until 20, anyway. You're now just a kid who can take care of themselves, basically. There's other productive things you can do instead of going to work right away. College and volunteering are good ways to find self-discovery and learn new skills. Whatever you do, just don't get into the "I have to work until my last breath" craze. That's a straight road into depression. You don't owe society work in order to deserve existing. We are human-beings, not human-doings.

    Happy birthday!

My experience is that the big "milestone" ages like 18 and 21 (here in the US, you have to be 21 to drink) are never the life-changing events you expect them to be growing up. You're still the same person you went to bed as the night before when you were still 17.

To be honest, I don't think anyone really feels like a "real adult" at 18, or much different than they did at 17. I know I didn't. It was probably not until around 19 1/2 or 20 that things started to really change.

Even at 25, I still feel like a kid some ways, and it feels super weird to watch my peers get married and have kids, because it doesn't seem like we should be that old yet!

I do think getting a job and planning for a career are good moves to make, though!

I am old enough to be your mother and I still don't feel like a "real adult". Anyone who feels like a real adult is probably kidding themselves.

I agree. I still don't feel like one! I feel like more of one than I did a few years ago, but am definitely still a kid in a lot of ways and very young at heart.
