So, i'm a man and my ring finger is shorter than my index.

Apparently my finger size sets in stone my testosterone levels and masculinity. This is quite disheartening to hear. The problem is I'm not a masculine man. People say this shows in my facial features and my difficulty in growing facial hair at 19. No man would choose to be feminine if they could choose their masculinity. Life is easier for masculine men.

What the fuck do I do?

No, that is just a myth. The length of your ring finger determines the amount of testosterone you were exposed to in the womb which affects how your face looks but it has no effect on your testosterone levels now.

As a lot of people have said, this is a myth, based on somewhat accurate but not precise measurements that correlate with levels of estrogen & testosterone exposed to in utero.

I personally would try to ask myself how I define "masculine" and "feminine" and think about why it's so important. A gender binary isn't necessary for our culture and its significance is rapidly fading, anyway.

    • valid point, but the correlations between digit ratio and traits is concerning for some, particularly the afflicted. i have a high ratio and its correlated with higher anxiety in men. i've suffered from debilitating anxiety all my life, and i have a face that looks like that of a 15 year old, with sparse facial hair (i'm 19.5) so its hard not to believe it and be somewhat bummed

i've never heard about the length of fingers meaning anything other than what size gloves you wear

Its kinda like shoe size with men indicates their size. If you know what I mean? In this case whether testosterone or gay indicator there is no scientific facts.

      • actually there are facts. I have a high (but not =>1.0) digit ratio and i'm not exactly the most masculine guy ever. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digit_ratio

    • In fact, I wanted to say that in spite of being gay I am happy that my fingers are not gay and that´s it. Hopefully one day I will have the courage to embrace my sexual orientation - that will be the true relief...

I always know which of my comments you are gonna pop up on. I was actually waiting for this one. Good job, you have become predictable.

You could be gay, but just haven't fully realized it yet. Who knows, that might not be the case but most of the time "sissy" men especially those with a lot of feminine features ARE gay. No offense, but you probably are

Apparently I have the fingers of a heterosexual woman. Funny since I have a penis and all.

My boyfriend told me about this the other day!! What a coincidence :P I have lady fingers and he has man fingers. But it's actually just genetics I would think. There's no way there's a connection.

    I call bullshit!

(My fingers do agree that I'm heterosexual, but I still call bullshit!)

That finger thing really only shows how much estrogen/testosterone you were exposed to in utero, not how much is in your system now but it's entirely possible that it's not a coincidence and it's also possible that there weren't enough dominant "masculine" traits in your particular little embryo to give you more masculine traits.

You can work out, intake more protein and possibly see a doctor about some artificial testosterone supplements but there isn't that much else you can do for your physical appearance save for massive and expensive surgery.
