Smelling plaque

Well, technically humans are apes.

I just tried doing your idea. My plaque had no smell. The whole experience was kind of under-whelming. Better to use a high speed vibrating toothbrush with good tasting toothpaste. The zesty vibrations provide a more orally erotic experience.

I still do it. If I'm flossing prior to brushing my teeth, sometimes I'll scrape and collect chunks of it on the flosser's toothpick end.

I enjoy examining it under a light and testing the texture between my fingertips.

Doing this is normal, I feel. As with most self exploration, it's healthy enough as long as you don't fixate on it or use it to gross people out or seek attention.
