Small talk

Is it normal to enjoy small talk?

I know most people hate it and loath this little social ritual. Not me, I find small talk creates a natural springboard into many amazing conversations. Although some people are boring and can carry on a conversation as well as they can carry water in a net.

So talk to me. Wuz up?

It can be fun because you can feel people's vibe and that alone, for the first time is cool! But you must be an extrovert to say this XD

    • I think introverts can say this. But the situation where this sentence would be likely, is rare. Good vibes are fun, we are social creatures.

I’ve been forced into many conversations about elevator buttons and floors due to the person waiting for the elevator with me having anxiety about awkward silence.

    • You ride the elevator a lot? I maybe use it a few times a year and I feel it is one place where being silent is acceptable.

But if that carpet pattern looks like an acid trip....

No, they say "You're on the third floor, aren't you?" I say "Yup, ha ha!!!!! Thanks for remembering which floor my office is on!!! That means you care about my existence! Maybe I won't kill myself when I get to my cubicle."

In some cases yes but usually no. I think it's becoming less common as well. There are two exceptions when I LOVE small talk and other than that I hate it lol

    1. Girls! I could small talk to girl I am attracted to all fucking day

    2. On topics I find interesting such as sex, lifting, nutrition, certain aspects of psychology ect

I'll respond to just about any pointless, nonsensical gibberish, and as long as it's not drunken or just generally obnoxious shite, I'll do it with a smile. But I don't initiate small talk, since I'm perfectly comfortable standing in silence with strangers.

It seems to me that many people are terrified of silence. It's almost as if they're worried about what they'll discover going on in their head if there's nothing going on to distract them.

I'll take silence anytime. Listening to small talk makes me feel like my brain is bleeding.

There's no such thing as small talk. You can learn things from whathever someone is telling you if you analyze them.

I like it. The more vapid the better. I hate awkward silence actually and probably talk too much. But im trying to feel out others and go accordingly to how much/ little they like to talk. I probably annoy some people but im trying...
I just ramble on too much.

Sometimes I like it and sometimes I dont. Depends on my mood and the vibe I get from the person. Some people I sense a toxic vibe so I avoid them.

    • I try to avoid toxic people as much as possible.....except in here. I walk right into it in here.

I'm one of those people who can carry on a conversation as well as I can carry water in a net, however I do like it when the monotony of life gets broken up by small talk and mildly amusing banter.

    • Some people are naturally funny and cheerful. Banter is an exercise for the brain, I think. Keeps you sharp!

I dont like small talk and used to always find myself in awkward situations but I got a job in a taxi office answering the phone and just talkong all day on the phone gave me the ability to make conversation with taxi drivers, once you can do taxi talk you can face any social situation

Yeah but that came naturally to me because my parents both have different accents and ive lived in Ireland and England over the years

Hide from what? My cat is pretty much by my side all the time. He's been more loyal to me than a lot of other people's dogs have been to them. I'm truly blessed to have this little Siamese cat in my life.

My cat gets concerned if i sing, and he bites me if i dont stop lol while looking scared.

              Comment Hidden ( show )
            • Well that joke got lost. It's no fun if you have to explain it.

I once had a cat that could be best described as my familiar. He would pee on your stuff if you fucked with me....good kitty. Although my puppy now is as loyal as they come.

Hate it. It's pointless and probably mostly people standing there lieing to each other.

    • So you would rather spout out how much you hate it rather than answer a simple question? The point is to have a conversation, not show off how ill tempered you are.

Your question was: "Is it normal to enjoy small talk?"

        I answered.

          -
        • Just because you replied does not mean you answered the question. It was a yes or no question. You stated your opinion of it, not whether it was normal or not. So technically you did answer it but did a lousy job in doing so.

            Ok then.

"NO, I Hate it. It's pointless and probably mostly people standing there lieing to each other."

            Better??

            • Did you know most of your comments here qualify as small talk?

I understand why you are here.

Yes, but I dont. I dont understand the point. I dont talk to someone unless there is something to talk about, that is a waste of my alone time.

    Comment Hidden ( show )

    • The point is often unknown until it starts. Small talk can eliminate the initial awkwardness of a situation and help people feel comfortable.

Yeah that's true, unless you really don't get along but if you do it can of course feel more comfortable to small talk and lighten the mood a bit.
