Skype with a guy that i like but haven't hungout with before

So I want to skype with this guy that I like, who I haven't really hungout with before. I'm too nervous to skype with sound though incase it's awkward and we have nothing to talk about. So is it okay to 'skype' basically just webcam together and type to each other in chat?
