We can't control the actions of others, but we can try to avoid certain situations to the best of our abilities (not trying to victim blame, just suggesting that there are certain things it's a good idea to really think about the possible implications of). Is it unfair? Absolutely, but it's unfortunately the way it goes, and there's nothing that can be done about it other than trying to be proactive on our part.
