Should people be interrogated for not crying at sad movies?

Is it normal to be interrogated for not crying at sad movies? I mean they are not real? so why would you be upset over something you know is fake. I want to see what peoples opinion is.

    Interrogated?

  • This has happened to me too. They cry and I don't so they want to know why. Accept, I don't get all hostile about them asking and therefore turn the situation into a so-called interrogation. For me, it's always be a rational conversation about how the movie made us feel as individuals.

They only want to know what I'm experiencing because it's different from what they're experiencing. There's not harm in them asking.

That's stupid, even though people know those things are not real doesn't mean they can't get attached to certain cahracters. It's perefectly okay to cry over fictional things.

    • Yes but that is not the point. I am asking if its normal to not cry or does that make you a horrible person?

No it doesn't make you horrible person it just means you didn't get sucked in the fictional world as much a other people. Or maybe you just didn't care that much. Either way it's fine.

Hi SangoNyappy sorry for the presumption but the things you've written really resonate with what ive felt before and i wanna say I'm here if u need an impartial ear and that the more you talk about the pain when it hits, be it to the samaritans(who r 24/7,confidential and saved my life) or imalive(dot)org, Crisischat both of which u can textchat online, the more the pain and anxiety lessens. You can move past this but you don't have to fight alone, lean on others and the stronger and happier you become. I'm here, keep talking you can beat this

different things make different people sad. policing other peoples emotions and deciding what is wrong and right doesn't make sense. your feelings are always valid and you shouldn't have pressure to feel/react a certain way. feelings aren't a choice

There is some painful stupidity in this line of reasoning. Interrogate? What the fuck is that about? Because it is fake? Hate to break it to you, but most comedies are fake too, but people laugh. How dare someone laugh at that, it isn't real! Doesn't that sound stupid. As if you aren't allowed to feel anything regarding fiction. Oh my dear, you are having an emotional reaction to something that isn't real. Heaven forbid you act like a fucking human.

    • In "Stranger than fiction" the writer figures out new way to kill her characters. Its does not mean she is really killing the characters. If she had any type of attachment to her own characters she could not kill them for it would be morally wrong. However when she finds out that one of her creations is real and comes to her she can not kill him. The characters are fake so its ok to kill them. If they are not fake its not ok to kill them. So there is a detachment. Also its not like we are going to all commit suicide since our beloved character died. Sounds a little irrational.

sweet movie.. "If you have someone who willingly, knowingly, goes to his death, well...isn't that the kind of person you want to keep alive?"

        Comment Hidden ( show )
  • No, and I am wondering why anyone would think its bad not to. I am having a very hard time comprehending other peoples emotional reactions to things. I cannot think of movie that's made me cry and I cry on average once every couple years, usually when something really effects me. I hardly even understand crying or emotional reactions and am having a hard time understanding people who do.

    • Yes lots of people question it. I have been questioned by people and family. I also dislike crying in front of people so I don't see why people enjoy crying.

      • Why would they question something like that? Sounds like they're a bunch of pussies.

        • Well I kind of took it that way but people always think I am a horrible person for it. Along with this I love horror movies but I think I enjoy it for the psychological aspect. I like seeing how people react when they are in terror.

So this ends up making people think I have mental problems. I only been interrogated and questioned ruthlessly a few times and everyone agreed I was the bad guy in that case.

I don't know how to respond to that. I cant make myself sad. I guess that makes you a bad person though. Though this applys to many things. I act this way with everything.

People tend to think I am cold for that reason but I just don't see a reason in making such a fuss over such tiny things. People say I have no sympathy and that I need to learn to care about what others feel but I just don't and I cant. I know I might be awful but I just cant fix it.

People expect you to care about things as much as they do and I just dont. I dont know how to fix it but people think I need to.

          • I don't understand it either. There's nothing wrong with your reactions. You just think with logic instead of emotions. I do think there may be something wrong with them though. Telling people they have mental problems over simple things is a sign that they have the problem.

Crying for beauty of something, not necessarily empathy. At least for me, those tears are subconscious..

...I don't know how else to explain it, sorry. The human mind is capable of getting "upset" by things that are not real, plain and simple. I guess it depends on how much imagination you have

No but if Tom Hanks and everyone else in the platoon died and Matt Damon questions if he was worth it, then you have to at least admit it is sad, even if its fictional (although somewhat based on a true story I think).

    • Sad or not does not change if I cry or not.
