Should mustard gas be allowed in warfare?

Do you think it's okay to use mustard gas in warfare?

Yeah, murder is murder, so it doesn't matter. 5

This was all litigated by the Geneva convention after WWI. It’s not allowed because of the great suffering it causes before death.

    Is it moral? No

Is it ok? Only if you win. If you lose you'll face war crimes.

Well in the war crime proceedings even if you did use gas weapons if both parties used gas weapons under similar circumstances neither side would get penalized for it. The war crimes tribunal really doesnt like to do double standards.

I dont think thats always the case. A lot of SS officers got the firing squad for doing the same thing the soviets did.

    • Killing someone is immoral, no matter how you do it.

You also cant control its dispersion very well. That was the main reason why it strayed into being a cruel weapon. Undue suffering is not very specific, in ww1 Germany wanted shotguns to be banned because they caused undue suffering.

Not being able to control its dispersion is the main reason why gas weapons are discouraged. Since a simple change of wind could blow it towards your own troops or civilians.

"Poison gas was initially released from cylinders, but this required ideal weather conditions and could be very risky. In the first British gas attack, at Loos in September 1915, much of the gas was blown back into the faces of the British troops."

After 1916, they would use gas shells to clear enemy artillery positions. That proved very effective, even if just using something like tear gas.
