You should definately move on, atleast that's what I should do.
You don't want to be waiting the rest of your life for nothing, but if you're not ready emotionally for a new relationship or really want to wait, then do it. Go for it.
Being abusive is never a good thing though, maybe you should try helping him with that. I'm sure he loves you too, being abusive has nothing to do with that, even though I don't support it.
