If you want to tell them, just tell them. Why does it matter if your friend finds out you're in love with them (who else thinks "he" should be considered male/unknown gender again)? If you are in love with them, you should tell them anyway.
Back in the olden days, "he" was both a masculine and neutral pronoun. Now "he" is only masculine, while "they" is the neutral pronoun despite the fact that it originally only described a -group- of living things of unspecified gender.
Should I tell my friends about this site?
